This course is offered through Oregon State University and is designed to educate the public about watersheds. (Similar to the Master Gardener course). It will be held at the OSU Extension office in Roseburg. Learn about:

Watershed Processes
Salmonid Ecology
Soils, Erosion and Conservation
Riparian Area Management and Restoration Stream Assessment and Restoration Wetland Evaluation and Enhancement Water Quality and Monitoring Methods Invasive Species

Intro: 1/25/2012: 6:30-8:30pm

Unit 1:

o 2/8, 2/9: 6:30-8:30pm

o 2/10: 9am-4pm

Unit 2:

o 2/22, 2/23: 6:30-8:30pm

o 2/24: 9am-4pm

Unit 3:

o 3/7, 3/8: 6:30-8:30pm

o 3/9: 9am-4pm

Unit 4:

o 3/21, 3/22: 6:30-8:30pm

o 3/23: 9am-4pm

To Apply:

First, send completed application form and check to the Partnership for the Umpqua Rivers. Applications are available here or can be picked up at 1756 NE Airport Road (Partnership for the Umpqua Rivers office) or at 1134 SE Douglas Avenue (OSU Extension office). The Master Watershed Stewards team will briefly interview you before the course begins. The final candidates will start classes on January 25th, 2012.

Rates

This fee includes course materials, transportation costs, and instruction. Unfortunately, no scholarships are available at this time.

$80.00 per person

$50.00 per student

$100.00 per couple

 

Continuing Education

We are able to offer continuing education credits through OSU. If you are interested, please let us know before beginning the course.
To complete certification of this course, all students are required to serve 40 hours of volunteer time. In most cases, this will take the form of a community service project related to watershed stewardship. Students will be allowed to do group projects and are encouraged to involve the community in their efforts.
